The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Essentia Health - St. After the service, there will be a luncheon followed by a traditional burial at the Greenwood Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather for a 12:00 pm Visitation and a 1 pm Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 22, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Minong, WI. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter, Deborah (Wade), grandson, Derek, twin granddaughters, Allyson and Ashley Wiitala, two sisters, Jean Carlson and Eileen Crabtree, brother-in-law, Allen Roessel, sister-in-law, Joan Newsome (Max), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Throughout his life he touched many people with his kind, gentle soul. In his retirement, he spent the summers tending to his garden and apple orchard. He loved the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badger basketball/football. Mike was a great sports enthusiast and looked forward to watching his grandkids play sports as often as possible. He also loved his annual fishing trip to Canada which he did for 35 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years fishing the Minong area lakes/streams as well as being an avid hunter & trapper. In addition to working on the Fire Department, Mike started his own logging company that he named Sandeb, Inc. Mike was inducted into the State of Wisconsin Firemen's Hall of Fame, receiving recognition for the bravery he displayed and the lives he saved while risking his own. He was later promoted to Driver, then to Captain until he retired after more than 31 years of service.
